Our commitment
Election offices serve every voter, and many of the people reading this site are working to make their own websites accessible. So this site tries to practice what it preaches:
- Text and background colors meet WCAG AA contrast ratios. The green, yellow, and red labels never rely on color alone: each has a shape and a word.
- Headings are in order, links say where they go, and every image has alt text.
- Everything works with a keyboard. A “Skip to main content” link appears when you press Tab.
- Menus and copy buttons announce their state to screen readers.
- The typeface, Atkinson Hyperlegible, was designed by the Braille Institute for readers with low vision.
- Pages work on phones, zoom to 200%, and print cleanly.
- Animations are minimal and respect your device’s “reduce motion” setting.
Known gaps
- Sample files you can download (PowerPoint, Excel, PDF) are checked with the built-in accessibility checkers, but complex charts may still need a text description, which we include on the page.
- Links to outside sites (vendor pages, government PDFs) are outside our control.
Found a problem?
Please tell us on the contact page. Include the page address and what happened. We aim to respond within a week.
Testing
Pages are checked with automated tools (axe) and by hand with a keyboard before each release. Automated tools catch only some problems, so reports from real users matter.
